Going to Montreal was really great. I had one of the best times of my life. It was really interesting how almost all the places we were greeted in French so they actually thought we were from there! People were incredibly polite, even the cops! We got into a little bit of trouble by making a left in a straight-through only lane although we never saw any signs saying that you can't make a left. Apparently we were wrong. The cop who pulled us over told us we couldn't make a left where we just did and Josh (who was driving) told him that he was just following the instructions on the GPS to go to the Botanical Gardens from our hotel. He did not take us to the police station thankfully. He just looked at Josh's passport and registration and told him that he should follow the street signs instead of the GPS. Then he let us go. When we got to the gardens, we spent just about all day there. It was really huge so we only got to see the Chinese and Japanese gardens. They looked like the best parts from the brochure anyway. We spent another entire day at the Biodome, another day exploring parts of the underground city, walked all over St. Denis, Chinatown and other tourist spots.
Coming back to the U.S. wasn't fun because we knew we'd have a ton of work to catch up on and a heap of mail.
It also made me realize that some people whom I thought were my friends really aren't. These are some people who I have been there for 4.5 years and they just stopped calling me, wishing me a happy holiday, etc. I always had to go out of my way for them. So I thought if this was the way they want it then I might as well forget them.
However I am still grateful for the ones that I have kept in touch with - the ones who realize that the phone works both ways. It's really true that all you need is at least one good friend.
So I am just going to let go the ones that aren't worth keeping and live a new life.
Edit: (I included this here so I can remember these awesome moments)
One of my co-workers said the funniest thing I've heard all week. There is this hallway where all the directors sit (4 offices on either side of the hall) and we constantly have to walk through this hallway to get the mail, go to the Finance department, etc. All the directors there are male with the exception of one.
Me to Chrissi: Is it me or has it been a lot colder in that hallway?
Chrissi: Yes it's definitely colder but it's a good thing it's frigid because it keeps the directors awake. It also keeps the "boy" smell down.
Me: what?
Chrissi: You know, everytime I go down there I smell "boy": Old Spice deodorant, aftershave.. it just reeks of "boy"! With the air conditioning higher than normal you don't smell it as much!
